PG35L cooling - reduce fan noise

I just configured the cooling fan on the PG35L to be controlled by pwm on from the Azteeg board. Previously I had the fan connected directly to the PSU and running at full power, which is noisy. The following was suggested, but perhaps not endorsed, by Brad.

First, in my Smoothieware config file I set delta_current from 0.5 to 0.3.

Next, I made a new switch module called fan2, It looks like this:

Code: Select all

#PWM control for PG35L fan
switch.fan2.enable true #
switch.fan2.output_type pwm #
switch.fan2.startup_state true #
switch.fan2.startup_value 125 #
switch.fan2.output_pin 0.26 #
switch.fan2.max_pwm 255 #
Finally, I plugged the fan into the Vin side of pin 0.26 (top right side of the fan header). There is a diagram here with the pin numbers ... ing_v3.pdf.

When you power up the fan briefly goes to full power and then drops down and stays at half power. The result is that the E3D V6 fan is now the noisiest thing on the machine, and that's not bad at all.

Nice mod... keep us posted with the lower extruder motor current. Most are OK at .3 and some need .5. Not sure why.

So far it's been working perfectly. The reduced fan noise is a welcome change.
