I noticed after I attached my kapton heater to the heat spreader that the thermistor did not actually make contact with the aluminum. Instead, the two clear/white insulating sleeves were holding it in the air just away from the surface. This series of photos documents what I did to fix the problem. ...
Makes sense, for a temporary issue that will soon become irrelevant. BTW, currently printing included pla_simple_print -- going great. Michael, where is the test print you reference in your "first print" guide?
So, took it apart (not NEARLY as bad as I'd anticipated). The problem occurs at the interface between PTFE tube and heatbreak, as shown in the photo below. If I push filament through JUST the PTFE tube, it hangs up a bit at the end (where the tube is tapered). It's quite rough, but I can push it out...
Straightening did not help. Photos hopefully attached, but I have my doubts, since they're not showing up in preview. Yes, I'm pushing through by hand. I will attempt to straighten out the piece (it is very curled), but I did try rotating it in place in an attempt to clear any lip, so I don't have high hopes for that. The PTFE tubing was installed.... but the question is whether it was installed correctly. I fear a...

Hmm. What I mean is that there is by definition some minimal force that will trigger the FSRs when you apply that force directly above one of them. If you apply that same amount of force in the center, it's by definition spread among the 3 FSRs and thus won't trigger them.
I'm attempting to push filament through my heated hotend for the first time (Step 87 in the guide). Nothing comes out, even with significant downward force. The filament pulls back out easily, and there's no indication that the end is hot or has been deformed at all from the shape my cutters left it...
