Autocalibration repeatability

This is a follow-up from a previous thread about first-layer calibration. This is not (necessarily) a description of a problem, merely a set of observations, in the hope that Michael can draw some conclusions :) I just doublechecked that my bed can move up&down freely, cleaned it carefully, and trie...

Re: Magball arms not straight?

Good enough for me ... just making sure it wasn't just me. As you say, rotating the arm does not perturb the effector.

Magball arms not straight?

I just noticed something surprising. Check out this video, if you can (not sure of the best way to post video here): https://goo.gl/photos/UzqqcUpXqo1MfyPU9 As you can see, the arm is not straight. It appears one or both of the ends is not aligned with the shaft. This is true of all 6 of my arms. It...

Re: Confusion with 1st layer calibration

Yeah, I agree that it's easy to get carried away optimizing numbers, when ultimately what you care about is correct results. I think this is part of what Brad was trying to get across in his reply (since deleted, I guess???) For me, this is in large part a learning experience at this stage, so I'm i...

Re: Confusion with 1st layer calibration

Fair enough -- maybe I'll focus solely on autocal issues for now (in a new thread). It'll have to wait until later this evening. Thanks again for your help!

Re: Confusion with 1st layer calibration

Thanks! I'll try those steps this weekend once I get time to play again. A few quick observations/replies: If you & Brad are correct that my first layer is too thin (and I don't doubt you), that makes the 0.24 measurement I got from the 75mm disc perimeter extremely misleading. That measurement was ...

Confusion with 1st layer calibration

So, I've been playing around with 1st layer height calibration per Michael's instructions. I'm getting some results that confuse me. I'll try to provide as much detail as possible, so bear with me: Printing with Ultibots black ABS, 1.75mm I did a few spot-checks on the filament diameter, it ranged f...

Re: Rod Length in Config file correct?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. My fault for hijacking a thread. I know I can just average the values for config.g. My question is about the assembly of the printer itself: how important it is to keep them in matched pairs, since ideally the two rods in each pair should be precisely matched? If I've lost the...

Re: Rod Length in Config file correct?

This reminds me of a question that is related enough I don't feel too guilty sticking it in this thread: Either in shipping, or when I unpacked them, some of the stickers got removed from my rods. I have one matched pair, and two pairs that might be matched, or might be swapped (and thus off by a ve...

Re: Bed temp differential

Understood. I am aware that I'm going over well-known territory here. I just wanted to explore the magnitude of the temperature difference for myself, because it wasn't clear to me going in how big it would be. 5 degrees? 30? I wasn't attempting to suggest that anything needs "fixing" :) I agree the...
